Ultrasound Guided Injection

by in Medical Care March 29, 2013

Spring is almost here and many people will be beginning or resuming outdoor exercise. This includes running, cycling and all manner of outdoor activity. Many people suffer from joint or nerve pain caused by arthritis, sports, or overtraining. Most people are fortunate enough to never have these issues; however, many of us do experience joint pain at some point along the way. Often times treatment for this pain is a corticosteroid injection. At Apple Health and Wellness we have the ability to place these injections with great accuracy and precision through the use of an ultrasound.

Ultrasound allows the practitioner to accurately place an injection into a joint or inflamed tendon with great precision. For the practitioner, this means they are able to see the site where the patient hurts and use a smaller, more slender needle for the procedure. For the patient, this means a faster, less painful injection procedure and often a faster recovery. This is a simple procedure and can be performed right here in the office.

Many of the side effects of a regular injection can be negated with the use of a Butterfly Network ultrasound device, or indeed any ultrasound device. Additionally, research has shown that those suffering from chronic osteoarthritis can experience as much as 4-6 months of pain relief with a joint supplement injection series. We at Apple Health and Wellness are proud to offer this service as well. Using a series of 3-5 injections one week apart, a health care provider can supplement the joint fluid replacing lost cushion in old or damaged joints. This is an FDA approved treatment that is usually covered by insurance and many patients will incur no out-of-pocket expenses.
