Exercise Daily – Functional Training

How many times in a day do you find yourself picking something up using a curling motion with your bicep doing all the lifting? The answer is probably not very often. That is unless you engage in regular bicep workouts to keep your muscles in shape.

Functional training is a type of exercise that aims to mimic the motions used in everyday activities by engaging several muscle groups at once. That’s because perhaps outside of opening and closing a door, most of what we do on a daily basis does not involve moving a weighted object on a track with a set path.

Since functional training exercises emphasize using muscles together in synergy, it can be a useful tool when recovering from a back injury or surgery. Doctors wouldn’t advise their patients to do heavy lifting right after surgery, and as such, it is appropriate to ease your back into normal activity by giving it some help from your other muscles before placing too much strain on it. Incorporating an exercise regimen that emphasizes functional training is a good way to rehab those muscles during the recovery process.
